Frequently asked questions.
What is therapeutic home organizing?
Therapeutic home organizing blends traditional decluttering with a compassionate, trauma-informed approach. It is a holistic way of working with your space and your belongings. There are a lot of emotional barriers that can make organizing or getting rid of things difficult: ADHD, grief, overwhelm, avoidance, burnout. Together, we make decisions, reduce the stress of getting started, and find systems that suit you and your environment. While the session focuses on clearing physical space, many clients find that creating an organized environment has a meaningful impact on their well-being.
What kinds of spaces do you work with?
Bedrooms, closets, kitchens, pantries, bathrooms, living rooms, office spaces, gear rooms, studio spaces, craft rooms, sheds, garages, and more. If it’s part of your home, it’s likely something we can tackle together.
How long are sessions?
A typical session will last 3 hours. People are often surprised how much can get done in a three hour session with two people working together, and I find three hours is generally when people’s energy levels for the project starts to teeter. However, the length of a session depends on the space and your needs. During our consult, we’ll talk through what makes sense for your goals and comfort level, and we can always book follow-up sessions as needed.
Do I need to clean before you come?
If it will make you more comfortable, you are welcome to, but it is not necessary. It is helpful for me to see your space exactly as it is so we can understand what’s actually getting in your way. I walk into spaces without judgment; my job is to reduce overwhelm, not add to it.
What if I feel embarrassed or overwhelmed?
Many clients share that they feel embarrassed about having someone see their space, especially when it’s a space that has been causing stress for a long time. My goal is to support the emotional side of organizing, and we move at a pace that feels manageable. We’ll also have a phone consultation before I come in-person, so we’ll have a chance to talk through some of this ahead of the session.
Do you work with ADHD, chronic disorganization, or hoarding tendencies?
Yes. My approach is trauma-informed, neurodiverse-affirming, and grounded in mental-health training. I work with clients who experience ADHD, executive dysfunction, chronic disorganization, and mild to moderate hoarding tendencies. We’ll build systems that feel realistic and sustainable for where you’re at.
What does a typical session look like?
Every session is paced according to your comfort. We usually begin by identifying priority areas and establishing a “sacred space,” cleaning one area thoroughly to offer inspiration for the rest of the session. From there, we work through decluttering, sorting, grouping like items, and creating homes for the things you’re keeping. I will remove any unwanted items at the end of the session. Whenever possible, I prioritize reuse and responsible recycling.
Do you bring supplies?
I primarily work with what you already own. Most homes already have enough baskets, bins, and containers to create a great system. If needed, I can suggest low-cost, functional additions.
Do you offer ongoing support or maintenance sessions?
Yes. Many clients benefit from periodic support to keep systems running smoothly, especially as life changes take place. We can schedule follow-up sessions, or talk about a schedule that feels realistic for your needs.
What are your rates?
A standard three-hour decluttering session is $225. I also offer a sliding scale and bundled pricing if you need multiple sessions or ongoing support. During our consultation call, we’ll talk through what makes the most sense for your goals, budget, and space.
